As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Steven Yeun will not be starring in Marvel’s anti-hero movie, Thunderbolts.
Like many upcoming movies, Thunderbolts‘ release date has been pushed due to last year’s strikes – moving from July 2024 to July 2025.
Though Yeun was never officially announced to star in the movie, The Walking Dead actor did speak to Empire magazine back in 2023 about the role, saying that the “intentions of the particular character that they wanted me to play were very clear, and that’s what drew me to the film”.
Set to be directed by Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts follows a team of anti-heroes which, in the comic books, includes the likes of Bucky Barnes and the Red Guardian. Confirmed stars so far for the movie include David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko and Florence Pugh.
Yeun is no stranger to comic books adaptations, voicing the role of Mark Grayson in Prime Video’s superhero animation Invincible, created by The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman. Last year he starred alongside Ali Wong in Netflix series Beef, which is slated to be nominated for a slew of awards this year (he’s already been nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in the series).
This year, Yeun will star in Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite follow-up, Mickey 17, which also stars Robert Pattinson Mark Ruffalo, and Toni Collette, based on the book Mickey7 by Edward Ashton (read our review here).
